Chemical Equilibrium of Schizophrenia
For this project we were given a list of topics involving equilibrium and we able to choose a topic in which to develop our project. I chose schizophrenia and proceeded to research what it did to your brain. To elaborate on that, I looked up how schizophrenia took the brain out of mental equilibrium and what ways help bring the brain back to equilibrium. I also researched how schizophrenia can be related to Le Chatelier's principle.
To attack this project we needed to understand the concept of chemical equilibrium, which is when there are an equal amount reactants and products. We also needed to understand Le Chatelier's principle, or the "Equilibrium Law" which predicts the effect of change in conditions of chemical equilibrium. When your brain is in equilibrium it is preforming properly and you're generally happy with minimal mood-swings. However, if you have schizophrenia your brain has become out of equilibrium which can happen because of a variety of different reasons, such as a lack of sleep, drug use, protein deficiency, or improper brain development among other reasons. The most successful ways to help redeem mental equilibrium are to maintain a healthy diet with lots of protein, get a sufficient amount of sleep, quit drugs and/or alcohol, and lastly antipshycotics.
Reflection
I thought this project was extremely confusing at first, and to be completely honest I'm still not sure if I did it right. But if I did do it correctly then it was an interesting project that I somewhat enjoyed because I think schizophrenia is interesting. I liked how we were able to choose our topics and I believe that made this project much more enjoyable. The hardest part for me was knowing what to look up and what kind of information I wanted to get, once I figured that out the next challenge I was faced with was finding this actual research since there are no true ways to go back to mental equilibrium after being diagnosed with schizophrenia. There is also no chemical equation so I had to make one up from the information I had gathered in my research. Overall I thought this was a challenging project and at the end of it I'm still not sure if I have a good understanding of chemical equilibrium. However I do completely know what Le Chatelier's principle is so theres that.
